Description

"And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them. And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand. So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim. And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire. And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer. And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations." 1 Chronicles 14:8-17

[0:00] In the book of 1 Chronicles, chapter 14. 1 Chronicles, chapter 14.

[0:17] ! 1 Chronicles, we also find in 1 and 2 Kings.

[0:34] And much of it we also find in 1 and 2 Samuel. And some people will actually ask the question, why are some of these accounts repeated in Scripture?

[0:45] Well, folks, it's God's Word, and God can repeat as much as He wants to of it. And in all honesty, we shouldn't complain about that, because it is the Word of God.

[0:56] He's got purpose for all of it. And I've heard men say that between 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles, one gives God's take on things, and another one gives man's take on things.

[1:12] I believe J. Vernon McGee actually takes that view between those two books. But regardless of how much it's repeated or whatever have you, it is part of the Word of God.

[1:27] Just as much as John 3.16 is part of the Word of God. And we should take heed to it all. But if you look in 1 Chronicles, the first several chapters of it, it's a bunch of what we would refer to as begats.

[1:44] This one had that one, and that one had this one. And much of that goes on in 1 Chronicles. And we actually see David first mentioned in the second chapter of 1 Chronicles, when it's talking about Jesse and his sons that he had.

[1:59] But there's a whole lot of begats at the beginning in the first several chapters of it. And then around about chapter 11 in 1 Chronicles, we see the account that we're all familiar with in Samuel's writings about how David came to be king.

[2:18] We see that Saul dies. And David officially becomes king at that point. There around the 11th chapter of 1 Chronicles.

[2:30] And we see David rise to power, per se, as king of Israel. He is anointed the king of Israel.

[2:41] He is given the kingship after Saul has passed away. But folks, honestly, the kingship was David's long before Saul was killed.

[2:52] God had had His man Samuel anoint David as king over Israel. Before that ever happened. But we see David called by God.

[3:05] And really, that's what it was. It was a calling of God to lead Israel. And to do the things that He has done. We know David from the scriptural accounts.

[3:16] David was a man after God's own heart. And David done his best to pursue God. And to do the will of God. Do the things of God. And I understand David had some setbacks.

[3:30] David sinned. And I get that. I'm familiar with all those accounts in the Scripture. But folks, we've always got Psalm 51 that we can turn to.

[3:41] Where David recognizes his sin. And David is very repentant of his sin. This is where David asks the Lord.

[3:51] He says, restore unto me the joy of thy salvation. Showing that David was God's own. He was God's elect. And God had called him into this position of king.

[4:05] It wasn't long after he was called into this position of king. And his anointing was verified and confirmed that he ran into some problems. And that's what we're going to see here in 1 Chronicles 14.

[4:19] In the 13th chapter of 1 Chronicles, we see where David makes plans to attempt to get the ark of God, the ark of the covenant, back into Jerusalem.

[4:31] The ark of the covenant was basically a sign of the physical presence of God with his people.

[4:43] And so David makes an attempt to get the ark back to Jerusalem. Back to the capital city per se. Of the Jewish people.

[4:53] Of God's chosen people. Of the apple of his eye. And we know that there was a man named Dutra. That laid his hand upon the ark. And God struck him dead right there on the spot.

[5:06] And the scripture says, just displease David. That this had happened. But regardless of all of that, the ark remains in another man's house for a period of about three months, according to the scripture.

[5:21] And all this leads us up to chapter 14 of 1 Chronicles. In the first seven verses of this, we see how David was anointed king.

[5:34] We see in chapter 2 that his anointing was confirmed as king of Israel. But we're going to begin at verse 8. 1 Chronicles in chapter 14.

[5:46] So we'll begin reading there at verse 8. And read through the end of the chapter. It says, For I will deliver them into thine hand.

[6:24] So they came up to Baal-peresim. And David smoked them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters.

[6:38] Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-peresim. And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment. And they were burned with fire.

[6:48] And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. Therefore David inquired again of God. And God said unto him, Go not up after them.

[6:59] Turn away from them. And come upon them over against the mulberry trees. And it shall be when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees.

[7:11] That then thou shalt go out to battle. For God has gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. David therefore did as God commanded him.

[7:23] And they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer. And the fame of David went out into all lands.

[7:34] And the Lord brought the fear of him upon all the nations. So back to verse 8. It says, And when the Philistines had heard that David was anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David.

[7:47] And David heard of it and went out against them. Here we have again, David has officially become king of Israel.

[7:58] He's become king of the entire nation of Israel. Again, God's chosen people. The apple of God's eye. The Israelites that God had looked down in the book of Genesis.

[8:10] We read where God looked down. And He chose this man Abram to be the father of this nation of Israel. And Abram begat Isaac. And Isaac begat Jacob.

[8:21] And Jacob begat twelve sons. Which became the twelve tribes of Israel. And then we go throughout the history of the Jews.

[8:31] But these Philistines, they had heard this anointing had taken place. That David had been anointed king over Israel. The Philistines had ever been a thorn in the sides of the Israelites.

[8:46] They had ever been at war with the Israelites. They had always had aught with God's chosen people. We read several accounts throughout the Scriptures about the Philistines coming against the Israelites.

[8:59] About the Israelites actually being given over as punishment. As part of the judgment of Almighty God. You read about this in the book of Judges in chapter 13. That they were given over to the Philistines.

[9:12] Given over to them for the period of about 40 years. According to the book of Judges. And we all know that Goliath, he was a man. He was a Philistine.

[9:23] That David had slew with a rock from a sling. But this all came to be because of a battle that was going on.

[9:35] Because of a disagreement. Because the Philistines had come against the armies of God. Against the people of Israel and the people of God. So when these people had heard that David had become king over Israel.

[9:49] The Philistines didn't like this very much. They thought that they could come against David. They thought that they could come against this new king. That was in place over the Israelites.

[10:01] They thought that they could undermine the work of Almighty God. And they came against him. It says in the valley of Rephiam. They came and they spread themselves out. Here in this valley.

[10:12] And folks, I'm telling you now. That this valley, this could be symbolic of a place that you and I may be in from time to time. We find our greatest problems lie within these valleys.

[10:27] Our greatest fears are many times found and realized in these valleys. The Philistines, they come to this valley of Rephiam. The Bible says that they spread themselves to come against the Israelites.

[10:41] And what do we read that David done? David inquired of the Lord. David went to God. He didn't go out on his own. I know the Bible says that David, he went out against them.

[10:53] But he inquired of the Lord. He didn't go out on his own merit. He didn't go out in his own strength. He didn't go out in his own wisdom. He went to God and he said, should I go out here and should I fight these Philistines?

[11:06] Should I go out here and will you deliver them into my hand? And God tells David, yes, you go out there. You fight against the Philistines and I will deliver them into your hand.

[11:18] But folks, the main thing to find here is here in this valley. Here in this valley, the Philistines had spread themselves in array against the Israelites. And that David inquired of the Lord too many times.

[11:32] We as Christians in the New Testament church, we will find ourselves in a valley. And we'll go every way that we know to go. We'll do everything that we know to do.

[11:43] And we will inquire of ourselves as to how to solve whatever problem it is. Whatever has got us down in this valley. And we'll depend upon ourselves.

[11:54] We'll depend upon our self-sufficiency. We'll depend upon our own strength and our own power and our own wisdom to get us out of these situations. But we need to do as David did here in the scriptures.

[12:07] And we need to go to God. And we need to ask God, what should I do in this situation? What should I do in this circumstance? Should I fight against this?

[12:17] Should I go this way? Should I go that way? And folks, God will come through for His children. He will have a plan already in place.

[12:28] And He will tell us what to do. He will guide us in what we should do. The best guidance that you and I can find as children of Almighty God is within the pages of this book.

[12:39] If we keep our noses in the Bible, we will understand a lot better the will of God. We will know a lot better the will of God for our lives. So when we find ourselves in these valleys that we're talking about, and we go to God and we inquire of Him, God will lead us in the correct direction.

[12:59] God will lead us in the way that He wants us to go. It is up to us, His children, though, to follow in that path, to do His will, and to go the way that He wants us to go.

[13:11] And God will deliver His children. Hallelujah. That the promise directly from the Scriptures, that God will ever deliver His children.

[13:21] He'll deliver us out of whatever valleys that we're in. He'll deliver us out of whatever troubles that we might find ourselves in. He will deliver His children. We belong to Him.

[13:32] Our Father is the God of the universe. Our Father is the Creator of everything that we know. He has power to do everything. Jesus Christ, just before He ascended, He said, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.

[13:47] Folks, there is no one better to pray to, and there is no one better to trust in, than the man, Jesus Christ, whom all power has been given to. Hallelujah. That's my Savior, Jesus Christ, that we're talking about here this morning.

[14:02] It says, And the Philistines came, and they spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. Rephaim and David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand?

[14:15] And the Lord said unto him, Go up, for I will deliver them into thine hand. God makes a promise here. You go up. You go up against these Philistines.

[14:25] Folks, this was odds that were against Israel. It was odds that were against David in this circumstance. The Philistines were known for their brutality.

[14:38] They were known for their savagery. And they were also known for their size. Not only the size of their armies, but the size of each individual Philistines. They were very well known for these things.

[14:50] But God makes a promise here to David. He says, I will deliver them into thine hand. Folks, it doesn't matter the size of your problem. It doesn't matter the size, or the scope, or the depth of your circumstance.

[15:04] God will deliver His children. And I find great comfort in that promise from the Word of God, that God will deliver His children. Verse 11, So they came up unto Baal Parazin, and David smote them there.

[15:20] Folks, this is a promise of God coming true, right here on the pages of Scripture. Folks, this is more, what we're reading here in this account, it is more than just a military defeat of a man named David in the army of Israel going against the Philistines.

[15:38] It is so much more than that. If we read this, and that's all that we see in it, we're failing to miss the point. If we read anything in the Old Testament, we need to find a way to apply it to the New Testament, and to the church, and how it fits in with the Gospel, and how it fits in with this man, Jesus Christ.

[15:58] These things were taking place here a thousand years before Jesus Christ would ever even be born upon this earth. We need to find how it applies here to us as Christians.

[16:11] Otherwise, we're just reading about one army defeating another army. And it goes so much deeper than that. So they came up to Baal Parazin, and David smote them there.

[16:23] Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand, like the breaking forth of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Parazin.

[16:36] This name, Baal Parazin, it simply means the God who breaks forth. That's why they named this place this particular name, the God that breaks forth, or the God who does break forth.

[16:49] But David here recognizes something. He recognizes that it was not his strength. It was not his military prowess. It was not his wisdom, or his own ability.

[17:01] He says, God has broken through, and He has smote the Philistines. He has defeated the Philistines. He said, by my hand, by David's hand, He has done it.

[17:12] But still, He gives the credit to Almighty God. Folks, that is something that we as the church need to keep in our minds. Whatever victories that we have, whatever victories we have in this life, however many valleys we have found ourselves inside of, and we climb out of the valleys, we might crawl through the valleys, and crawl up the side of the mountain, and we find ourselves upon that hilltop.

[17:38] All that credit is due unto none other than God, and no one. But God, He and He alone deserves the worship. He and He alone deserves the credit. He and He alone is the one that gives us the power, and gives us the strength to overcome these things in our lives.

[17:56] And David recognized that here in these Scriptures. He said, God has broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters.

[18:07] Folks, here in recent months, I guess September, of last year, when Hurricane Helene came through, we learned something about the power of water.

[18:20] And that's what David's getting at here. He says, he's talking about like the power of water. It's an unstoppable force. There is nothing. Once the water breaks forth, and once it sets out on its path to do destruction, there is nothing that man can do about that.

[18:38] It is an unstoppable force. And that is what David is referring to here as the unstoppable force. It's like an unstoppable force of water against these Philistines.

[18:51] But this force, and this power, and this strength, and this defeat on the part of the Philistines, and the victory on the part of David, is all because of God.

[19:04] It is His power, and His strength, and that is something that the church would do good to realize and to remember that every victory that we have is because of God.

[19:16] We just sang just a little while ago, Victory in Jesus, page 120, out of the hymn. We just sang that hymn. Folks, it is victory in Jesus. It is victory through Jesus.

[19:28] It is victory by Jesus. God has won the victory, and He has won it by Jesus Christ, and by Jesus Christ giving His life on the cross at Calvary.

[19:40] We have a victory in Jesus Christ, but it is only in Jesus Christ and it is because of His finished work that we can say that we have victory. We can't do it on ourselves.

[19:52] We were never capable of doing it in or of ourselves. We couldn't save ourselves. Only God could save us. And He could only do it through a perfect sacrifice, and that sacrifice was found in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

[20:09] We must remember these things. Too many times I've seen Christians, too many times I've seen them get haughty in themselves and get cocky in themselves, and they think, look at me, I've done this and I've done that.

[20:23] Folks, you would still be a sinner on your way to a devil's hell if it wasn't for Jesus Christ and if it wasn't for the perfect plan of God, that He put in motion before the foundation of the world was ever laid.

[20:38] We would all be hell-bound if it wasn't for that. If not for the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the Gospel according to 1 Corinthians in chapter 15, verses 1-4.

[20:50] If not for those things, the death, the burial, and the resurrection, if not for the perfect life that Jesus Christ lived leading up to that death, and if not for the ascension of Jesus Christ to the right hand of the Father, where He forever makes intercession for all those that have repented their sin and trusted in Him, if not for Christ, we would all be hell-bound.

[21:14] It is all in Him. But too many times, I've seen Christians and I've heard Christians, and I've heard them say, look at what I've done, look at what I'm doing, or I've never done this, and I've never done that.

[21:29] Too many Christians say, I've never been to a bar. I've never had a drink of alcohol. I've never done this, and I've never done that. I've never cussed. I've never been here, never been there, never hung out with these types of folks.

[21:40] Well, God bless your little heart. You'd still be hell-bound if it wasn't for Jesus Christ. You'd still be hell-bound, and I would too. It is Jesus Christ and He alone that keeps a repentant sinner out of hell.

[21:58] It was God and God alone that brought this victory to David over these Philistines. And it was only God. And David recognized that.

[22:10] David understood that. And he gave God the credit. And he gave God the glory. And he gave God the honor. And we need to do the same things in our lives.

[22:20] Give God the credit for it all. The Bible says in the book of James that every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of life. Anything good that happens in your life, it is because of God.

[22:33] And most of the bad that happens in our life is our own fault. Not all of it, but most of it is. And why? Because we don't inquire of the Lord. We just act.

[22:45] We act spontaneously. Spontaneously. Something comes our way. Some horrid situation arises. And again, we think, how should I solve this?

[22:58] How should I handle this? How should I, I, I, I, I, I? Instead of saying, God, how would you have me to handle this? How would you have me to handle this situation?

[23:11] What direction would you have me to go? We can learn a lot from what David does here. Verse 12, And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

[23:25] This is something else the church needs to take heed to. When they had left their idols there, who was the they? The Philistines. What idols are we talking about?

[23:35] Their idols. Their little gods. What they worship. And this is something that the church needs to take heed to. Because even though God has given us the victory in Jesus Christ, and although that victory is eternal, and although that victory has been granted unto us by Almighty God, too many times we put our own little gods in a place that's above where Almighty God is.

[24:07] We'll put ourselves there. We'll put our children there. We'll put grandchildren there. We'll put spouses there. We'll put any amount of people or things or ideas above God.

[24:20] There are many gods in this world. There's a God of self-sufficiency. There's a God of pride. There's a God of intellect. There's a God of material things.

[24:33] There's a God of money. All kinds of gods. Folks, we must burn those things with fire. We must destroy those things out of our lives. Remember, this is a man called David.

[24:45] And in the very chapter before this, he had seen God take out this man, Uzzah, for simply laying his hand upon the ark because the ox had stumbled and he was afraid the ark was going to fall off of the cart.

[25:01] David understood something about the holiness of God. And David understood that God and God alone is worthy of our worship. And that's why he gave the commandment to have these idols of the Philistines burn with fire.

[25:17] And we would do well to do that in our own lives, in our own houses, in our own minds, and especially in our own hearts. Get rid of those idols. Get rid of those little gods that pop up in the lives of Christians.

[25:34] And all of us are guilty of it. I'm as guilty of it as the rest of you are. And if you're sitting there saying that you're not guilty of it, that's another God that you need to get rid of is pride because we are all guilty of it.

[25:45] The Bible says, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And all of us are guilty of putting something above God at some point in our lives, at some point in our Christian lives, we have all been guilty of doing that.

[25:59] Burn your idols. Get rid of your idols. Verse 13, And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. Yet again, these Philistines come.

[26:13] So David smoked them once. And yet again, they spread themselves abroad in the valley. Folks, this shows me that the enemy does not rest.

[26:24] I've already said it. The victory that you and I have in Jesus Christ as born-again children of God, is an eternal victory. And the enemy knows that that's an eternal victory.

[26:37] But the enemy will not sit idly by while we pursue the kingdom of God. He will not sit by, idle, and let nothing else go on in our lives while we pursue the will of God and we spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

[26:55] The enemy is very persistent. Although he knows that we have the victory. That doesn't mean he just lays down and gives up. We have an adversary.

[27:05] The Bible says that we have an adversary. His name is Satan. He is a serpent. He's a dragon. He's all kinds of things that the Bible describes him as.

[27:17] But number one, he is an enemy of God and he is an enemy of the children of God. And he will forever lay himself out in this valley in a ray against the people of God until God finally brings that to a culmination.

[27:35] God will finally bring that to an end one of these days where we'll be forever with God in a place called heaven where there'll be no more weeping, there'll be no more crying, there'll be no more death, there'll be no more sorrow, there'll be no more sin because Satan himself will be taken care of by God.

[27:54] You and I aren't powerful enough to take care of Satan. We're not powerful enough to fight Satan. But God is. God is powerful enough to fight our enemy.

[28:05] These enemies, these Philistines, they put themselves back in the valley. The Bible says yet again. And what happens after they do? It says, Therefore David inquired again of God and said unto Him, Go not up after them, turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

[28:25] And it shall be when thou shalt hear the sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees that then thou shalt go out to battle. For God is gone before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

[28:39] So these Philistines set themselves in the valley yet again. And David yet again inquires of the Lord. He didn't just outright depend upon God because God had already given him one victory.

[28:55] He didn't say, Well, God told me to go out the first time and fight the Philistines, so I'm just going to go out this second time and fight the Philistines as well. David again inquired of the Lord.

[29:08] And it's a good thing that he did. Because God did not act in the same manner. God did not give him the same type of plan. He didn't say, Go on out and fight the Philistines.

[29:20] He says, No, you don't need to go out. Instead, you go over here by the mulberry trees. And when you hear me pass by in the top of the mulberry trees, which is exactly what God was getting at when He said, When you hear the sound of going in at the top of the mulberry trees, then you go.

[29:38] Because I'm going to go forth before you and I will smite the host of the Philistines. I will smite your enemy. I will take care of this situation.

[29:49] Folks, this reverts back. I know I've already quoted one verse out of James 1. I'll quote another one. James says, If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God.

[29:59] Why? Because God does not upbraid. And God gives wisdom literally to those that seek wisdom. And God is wisdom. If we're seeking after wisdom, folks, we are seeking after God.

[30:13] And David here was certainly seeking after wisdom. And he was certainly seeking after God. We can learn from this. Just because God works one way three years ago, five years ago, or yesterday, doesn't mean that he'll work in the same way this time.

[30:32] So it pays us to inquire of God every time, every time, something comes in our lives. Every time, again, these Philistines, they arrayed themselves in the valley.

[30:44] So every time we find ourselves in that valley, we need to inquire of God as to what to do. David done just that. He did just that.

[30:56] And God give another promise of another victory to his man, David. He says, It shall be when thou shalt hear the sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees that then thou shalt go out to battle.

[31:12] For God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. He says, You wait. You wait on me, folks.

[31:23] God's timing is perfect. And God's plan is perfect. Anything that he wants us to do, it is perfect. And it is for his glory.

[31:35] And it is for his honor. It's that his name might be spread abroad. It's that his name might be glorified. So everything that he is doing, he's already got a plan for.

[31:47] But everything he's doing, it is perfect. And it is in his perfect will that he told David to do this thing. And it does us good to wait on the Lord.

[31:59] It does us good to do as the psalm says in Psalms 46, Be still and know that I am God. And folks, sometimes that's all that we can do. Sometimes we are broken so bad.

[32:12] Sometimes we are so far down in the valley. Sometimes we are so depressed. We are so sad or we're so angry or we're so bitter that all we can do is be still and know that God is God and that God will take care of whatever the situation is in his perfect timing and in his perfect way and in his perfect will.

[32:39] He says in the book of Isaiah chapter 55, he says, My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my way. He says, For as the heavens are higher than the earth, as the heavens are above the earth, so are my ways than your ways and so are my thoughts than your thoughts.

[32:56] God does not always work in the way that we think that he will. Many times I've been guilty thinking that God would take care of something in a way that I thought that he would, but he winds up taking care of it in a completely different way, in a completely different matter, in a different way than I would have ever dreamed he would have, but nevertheless, on behalf of his children, he does take care of it.

[33:23] He does take care of it. Like I said, folks, we as the church, we can learn a lot from how David inquired of God in all this, and how David acted as God was acting on his behalf.

[33:37] Verse 16, David therefore did as God commanded him, they smoked the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer. So David did exactly as God had commanded.

[33:48] The first time the Philistines came in the valley of Rephaim, David inquired of God and God gave him the victory. The second time the Philistines gathered in the same valley, David inquired of God and David did exactly as God said and God gave him the victory.

[34:06] Folks, what does that tell me? What does that tell us? When we inquire of God, He will deliver us. It may not be the same way that He delivered us yesterday.

[34:18] Now, all this being said, this does not apply to salvation. It does not apply to salvation.

[34:28] folks, deliverance that God gives us, the deliverance that He gives us into the family of God, the salvation that He grants us is only by one way, and that way is through Jesus Christ.

[34:48] Jesus said Himself, I am the way, the truth, and the lie. No man cometh unto the Father, but by Me. John chapter 14 and verse 6. Christ says that. He also says in the Gospel accounts, Jesus says that no man can come to the Father but by Him.

[35:07] But He also says no man can come to the Son except the Father draws Him. So, it is given of God that we are drawn to Christ.

[35:18] It is given of God that we are given away unto God. All these things are given and salvation is by the blood of Jesus Christ that is the only way that a person can be saved and it's the only way a person will ever be able to be saved.

[35:35] But once we are delivered from sin, once we are delivered from darkness, once we are delivered from a sure path to hell, once we are delivered from all that, God's got multiple ways that He will deliver us out of multiple different situations.

[35:55] back earlier, we read where David had said, God had broken through into His enemies by His hand, like waters would break through.

[36:08] Folks, Jesus Christ broke through. Jesus Christ broke through in a way that this battle here, or these battles I should say, in 1 Chronicles chapter 14 that we're reading about, it pales in comparison.

[36:23] this doesn't even hold a lot to the breakthrough that Jesus Christ did for you and I and for everyone that would repent of their sin and believe in His gospel. He broke through sin, He broke through darkness, He broke through evil, He broke through death when He resurrected from the grave.

[36:42] Jesus Christ broke through it all that you and I could have life. And as He says in the gospel of John, have life and have it more abundantly. Christ done these things.

[36:54] Christ is the one that does these things and He's the one that will ever do these things. But folks, the plan of God or the will of God I should say and deliverance that God gives us after we're born again is not a formula.

[37:15] It's not E equals MC squared every time. it's due to a relationship with God. David had a relationship with God and because of that relationship and because of his understanding of the holiness and the righteousness of God David inquired of God as to what to do.

[37:40] So it's not a formula. It is a relationship with God that we go to Him and God delivers us out of these situations.

[37:51] God does not deliver everyone. It doesn't happen. And God certainly doesn't deliver everyone the way that they think that they might be delivered.

[38:04] Even Jesus in John chapter 17 He plainly stated the words I pray not for the world. I pray not for those that are lost.

[38:15] I pray not for those that you haven't given me. I am not praying for those I am praying for my disciples. That's the words of Jesus Christ. You can read them yourself. In John 17 says I pray not for the world.

[38:30] So God will deliver anyone that comes to Him in faith and repentance of their sin and faith in Jesus Christ as the salvation as salvation as the redeemer of their souls.

[38:45] God will deliver anyone from their sin and from their wickedness that does that. But deliverance after that in many different forms in many different situations will come how God wants that to happen.

[38:59] Folks, deliverance from sin and deliverance into the family of God is God's perfect plan. But it is only one deliverance in it. There is only one way to attain that deliverance and that is through faith in Jesus Christ and repenting of our sin.

[39:17] David therefore did as God commanded him. They smoked the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer. And the fame of David went out into all lands And the Lord brought David done exactly what God said.

[39:34] Twice he done exactly as God said. God delivered and the fame of David went out into all lands and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

[39:45] Folks, as many sermons as I've preached, I'm not famous and nor do I seek to be famous. That's not what this is getting at here.

[39:56] It's not getting at David had this huge military victory and David was made famous. The name of David went abroad.

[40:08] This is not saying that when God gives us deliverance that our names will go abroad, that our names will go out to all the nations or in this situation all the counties or the towns or into all the neighborhood.

[40:22] And folks, that is not what I seek after and it shouldn't be what you seek after either. This account of David, it looks forward into the future. It looks forward a thousand years into the future for the true David, for the son of David, Jesus Christ.

[40:40] It looks forward to him and his fame going out. I'm not saying that Jesus is wildly popular because he's not, but the name of Jesus is. Almost everybody on planet earth right now has in one way, shape, form, or fashion heard of the name of Jesus Christ.

[40:58] And why is that? Because he was dead, he was buried, and he resurrected. The name of Jesus Christ, it stirs hearts, it either stirs hearts to repentance, or it stirs hearts to reject him and his gospel.

[41:12] But either way, the name of Jesus Christ is known the world over. This military victory that David here had. It had global recognition.

[41:24] It says it went to all the countries that were round about. And folks, the name of Jesus Christ has global recognition. Philippians chapter 2 says that God has given him a name that is above every name, and that the name of Jesus Christ, every knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father.

[41:46] It's the name that God has given him. Folks, this was a victory that God had given David. This is two victories we read in just a few short verses that God gave his man David.

[42:00] And it says again in the last verse, and the fame of David went out into all the lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations. Folks, I don't want these people out here being afraid of me.

[42:12] And I don't want them just knowing who I am. I don't seek fame. I don't seek fortune. I don't seek recognition. What I seek is for the name of Jesus Christ to be uplifted.

[42:23] For the name of Jesus Christ to be glorified. I seek to exhort the brethren to do the exact same. To bring honor to Jesus Christ.

[42:34] And how do we do this? By going out there into this world and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. We go out into the! We tell people yes you're a sinner yes you're deserving of hell yes you shouldn't do these things but there's a man named Jesus Christ that has suffered and bled and died for you and he forever sits in glory he forever sits in majesty and he will forgive you of your sins he will make you his own he will give you deliverance that's how Christ is glorified by the church by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the good news that although man be a sinner God is a marvelous and wonderful and mighty and able and willing savior and he is that savior through Jesus Christ so I exhort you now and I encourage you now to go out into the world and proclaim the gospel I ain't saying you gotta go get out on a street corner and preach

[43:35] I'm not saying you got to get in a pulpit and preach but you proclaim the gospel to all those whom you come into contact with you proclaim his goodness you proclaim his mercy you proclaim his deliverance but you proclaim his gospel the good news that Jesus Christ has come as savior for everyone that will repent and trust in him and believe his gospel and that is my message for you all today god bless you all i appreciate your attention
