[0:00] Good evening. The preacher ran off and left his Bible at the house this evening, so he had to bum one. [0:11] ! So, we'll be in the Old Testament this evening, Deuteronomy chapter 8. [0:37] That's why I told Mike when I asked him if he had a Bible I could borrow, I said, as long as it's got Deuteronomy chapter 8 in it, we'll be good. So, missed you all this morning, but had a pretty good time where we was at. [0:52] It's always a privilege to preach the Word, regardless of where you're at. So, but I appreciate y'all's prayers and appreciate y'all in general. [1:03] But, book of Deuteronomy, again we'll be in chapter 8 this evening here shortly. Sometimes this book is called the second law, or the repeated law. [1:19] And that is because it is Moses addressing the Israelites that are about to go in to Canaan. The very next book in the Bible is Joshua, where they enter into Canaan land. [1:36] But, the Israelites though that Moses is addressing in Deuteronomy are the second generation that has been delivered out of Egypt. If you'll recall in the book of Numbers, the Israelites upset God, made God angry. [1:53] His anger was kindled against them. He says, these ten times you've tempted me. He said, and because of this thing, because of what you're doing, because of your unbelief, of what I promised to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and what I promised you, you're not going into the promised land. [2:11] But all those of yours that are twenty and under, and any that may come along the way from that point, are going into the promised land. [2:22] But those that were older than that, they're the ones that perished in the wilderness. So, again, this book is sometimes called the book of the second law. [2:35] It's not a different law, though, that's being given. It's the same law. It's the same law that we find in Exodus chapter 20. And those laws are actually expanded on in the book of Deuteronomy. [2:49] And it's a book really of warning for the Israelites not to do the same thing that the first generation that was delivered out of Egypt did. So, again, sometimes this book is called the book of the second law. [3:02] Sometimes it's called the book of the repeated law. And that is why. Because the law was being repeated to the Israelites about to go in. But Deuteronomy, beginning in chapter 1, up through where we'll be picking up this evening, is just kind of what I just said. [3:20] You know, it's Moses reiterating the law to them and giving them warning about what may happen. And as he's doing this, though, he's also bringing them back, bringing back to their memories of what caused them, this group of Israelites, this group of Jews, to be the ones going into the promised land. [3:41] He brings back to their memory that, you know, the spies went into the land. They spied out the land. They saw that the land was good. And they come back with an evil report from what we read in the book of Numbers. [3:55] All but two of them, Joshua and Caleb. And because of their unbelief, these Jews' fathers and parents in general, the older Israelites would not go in. [4:10] And he's reiterating that to them within the first few chapters of Deuteronomy here. So, all that being said, in Deuteronomy chapter 8, we'll begin in verse 10 and read several verses here. [4:25] So, Deuteronomy chapter 8, beginning at verse 10, says, says, When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. [4:37] Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, and not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day. Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein, and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied, then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt from the house of bondage, who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water, who brought thee forth water out of the rock of Flint, who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end. [5:40] And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth, but thou shalt remember the Lord thy God, for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant, which he swear unto thy fathers as it is this day. [5:58] Back to verse 10 in Deuteronomy chapter 8, When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God, for the good lamb which he hath given thee. [6:10] So here Moses is addressing the Israelites on behalf of God. Remember, this would be God speaking directly to the Israelites through his man Moses, and he says, When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God, for the good lamb which he hath given thee. [6:31] Folks, and what I want you to notice here, is he's not talking about famine, and he's not talking about shortage. He's not talking about want, that these Israelites are going to have. [6:44] Instead, he is talking about the fullness, that the Israelites are going to have. He's referring to when they get into the promised land, this land that was promised to be flowing with milk and honey. [6:57] Again, when the spies came back in the book of Numbers, and they gave their report, they gave the report of the grapes of the land, and the fruit of the land, and how everything was just as it was supposed to be, just as it was told them that it would be. [7:12] This is the land that God had promised them. And he says, when thou hast eaten and art full, he's not talking about a shortage of anything in this land, but he's reminding the Israelites here, when thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God. [7:29] Why would God feel like he had to remind the Israelites, that when they are full, they need to bless him, they need to praise him, they need to sing unto him, they need to worship the Lord God. [7:40] I'll tell you why. It's because it's not in the times of famine. It's not in the times of want. It's not in the times of our need that we forget God. It is when everything is plenteous that we forget God. [7:53] It is when everything is going right in our lives that we forget God. It is when everything, when the chicken account is full, when the cupboards are full, the refrigerator is full, we have one of nothing, much like the church in Laodicea had in Revelation in chapter 3. [8:09] We get the same attitude that they had. We have everything that we need, everything that we could ever want. We have one of nothing. And folks, we forget to praise the Lord when everything is going good, and everything is going smooth in our lives. [8:25] And God here is reminding his people, the Jewish people, his chosen people, the very apple of his eye. Remember to bless my name when your bellies are full in the land that I have promised you. [8:40] And I will reiterate that to you this evening, and to myself as well. Folks, this ain't a Thanksgiving sermon, but speaking of full bellies here, speaking of full bellies, when our bellies are full, and when everything is going right, and everything is going good in our lives, do not forget to praise the Lord in those times. [9:00] For if it were not for God, nothing might be going right in our lives. There may be nothing going smooth in our lives. It may be a rocky road, but folks, hey, it may be a rocky road, even though we are a child of God, even though we've been saved, even though we've been born again, even though all of these things. [9:18] But folks, when things get rough, and things go wrong, and things are bad in our lives, you just remember, you are a child of the one true King, and you are still not going to hell. [9:30] Hallelujah! But when things are good, don't forget to bless the Lord. Don't forget to praise God. Folks, I've been guilty of it. And if you're honest with it, you've been guilty of it too. [9:41] Everything goes good. Everything goes right. And you forget about God. You forget about why everything is going good. You forget about why everything is going right in your life. [9:52] And then things come down the pike. Then sickness comes. Then heartache comes. Then death comes. Then financial problems come. Then relationship problems come. Whatever the case is. And then we want to cry out to God. [10:05] Be cautious, folks. Be cautious of doing that. Towards the very end of this same book that we are in here, God gives instruction to these same Israelites. [10:16] He says, Go cry out to the gods that you've chased after. Go cry out to them for your deliverance. And see if they do so. When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which He hath given thee. [10:31] Not for the good land which you deserved. Not for the good land which you fought for. Folks, God said, I will go into this land. I will go in before you. I will go in before you. [10:42] And I will wipe out all these. Now, He gave instruction to the Israelites. Yes, when you go in, you are to take these folks out. But God said, I will be with you. And I will aid you in this thing. [10:52] I will do this. The battle is mine. The victory is already won. Go in and take the land. So He tells them, Be sure and bless me. Bless the Lord. When your bellies are full. [11:04] And when you go into this land that I have promised unto you. Verse 11. Beware, folks. That's a strong word. Beware is a strong word. This is the language of the watchman. [11:15] This is the language of the watchman. When all is dark out. And he knows that there is danger afoot. This is the language of the watchman. Hey, you can't afford to be asleep right now. You need to be awake. [11:26] You need to be aware. You need to know what's going on. Beware, is what this verse begins with. Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God. And not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command thee this day. [11:41] He says, Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God. But He tells us how we forget Him. How we forget Him, folks. I said not too awful long ago. The problem with the church, and the problem with the Israelites too, was amnesia. [11:56] The problem was amnesia. It wasn't anything intellectual to do with Him. The problem was they forgot. He says, Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God. [12:08] But it tells them how they forget Him. It says, In the keeping of His commandments, and in the keeping of His judgments, and in the keeping of His statutes, which I command thee this day. [12:20] What's significant about this? I'm not just talking about the commandments found in Exodus chapter 20, or the commandments that He's already reiterated to these Israelites in the previous chapters here in Deuteronomy. What was the commandment given in verse 10? [12:33] That when thou hast eaten and art full, that thou shalt bless the Lord. That was a commandment given straight from God to Moses for Him to give to the Israelites. [12:43] That is a commandment that God expected the Israelites to keep. It says, Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God in the keeping of His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command thee this day. [12:57] Folks, we bless the Lord, we praise the Lord in the keeping of His commandments, in the keeping of His statutes, with our lives, with our lips, with every fiber of our being. [13:08] We praise the Lord. We praise Him with our very lives. We praise Him with our lives. Not just with lip service. [13:19] I actually brought that up in the church. I preached that this morning. There's a lot of people out there who give God a lot of lip service. They praise God with their mouth. They'll scream. They'll shout. They'll shout the house down. [13:30] Run the aisles. Hop over the fuse. Cut a shine. In every way, imaginable. But Monday morning rolls around, they forgot all about God. Folks, that is not the sign of someone who's truly been born again. [13:45] That is not a sign of someone who has truly been delivered. We worship God with our very lives. Everything that we do, every action that we take, every word that we speak should worship God. [13:58] Do we do it perfectly? Absolutely not. Myself included. But, we strive to do that. Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, folks. And that warning goes out to you and I as well. [14:10] We live in a country, and I praise God, that we live in a country where there is plenty. It may not seem as plentiful as it once was, but it is still a country of plenty. [14:21] We can still walk into a store, and as long as we got a few dollars in our pocket, we can buy some food. And that is not the case in a lot of countries that are in the world right now. [14:31] We live in a country that has plenty. We have plenty here. And that plenteousness, unfortunately, has spoiled us as a people. It has spoiled the American people. [14:43] It has spoiled the American people to where we feel like we deserve it, to where we feel like it should be that way. And folks, it should not be that way. We have been blessed by Almighty God. [14:55] And unfortunately, the blessings of God have been overlooked by much of the country. I'm not talking about the church as a whole or anything along those lines, but by most of the country, the blessings of Almighty God has been overlooked. [15:09] They have been taken for granted. They have said, look at me. I have done this thing. We have done this thing. We built this country into what it is when it was Almighty God from the get-go that made this country what it is. [15:22] We have forgotten the Lord our God. Beware. Beware. Take caution. Take caution. Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God and not keeping His commandments and His judgments and His statutes which I command thee this day. [15:37] This country does a poor, poor, poor job of keeping the commandments of God and paying attention to the judgments of God and His statutes. And look where we're at now. [15:48] Look where we're at now. I was talking just this morning. I remember going to Foodline when I was 20 years old and I could take $10 to Foodline and buy my lunch for a week and have change left over. [16:02] You can't do that now. You can't do that now. You know why? I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that America has forgotten God. America has forgotten God but praise God there's always a remnant. [16:14] There's a remnant all throughout the Old Testament of people that believe God. There's a remnant in the New Testament of people that believe God. God has always got a remnant of His people to testify of His goodness and to testify of His mercy and to testify of the cross of Jesus Christ and of the death and the burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. [16:35] Praise God! He always has people on hand to preach of these things and to tell the world of these things that maybe just maybe one more soul might come to salvation. [16:47] Hallelujah! Hallelujah for the gospel of Christ. Verse 12. Lest when thou hast eaten and art full and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied and all that thou hast is multiplied then thine heart be lifted up and thou forget the Lord thy God which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt and from the house of bondage. [17:15] And I realize that was three verses we just read. There's a reason for that. I want to tell you right now God here is not condemning prosperity. He is not condemning us having things. [17:27] He is not condemning the Israelites for having things. Folks, He was bringing them into a land where the wells were already dug. He was bringing them into a land where the houses were already built. [17:41] Now if they were going to multiply in that land those houses would run out over a while. That's why He's talking about that they would build goodly houses. But folks, He was bringing them into a land that had all the fruit had all the water there were brooks of plenty there was food of plenty there was farmland of plenty everything was plenteous in this land. [18:01] He was not condemning prosperity. He was not condemning wealth but He was giving warning to the spiritual danger that many times follows prosperity. [18:12] And He does the same thing in our lives. The more we get the less we depend on God. The more we get the less we depend on God. Just like the picture of the country I was painting a little bit earlier. [18:26] The more we got and the more we had the less we depended on God. Don't take my what I'm saying don't take my word for it folks. Look around at these pews. [18:37] You're right. Look around at these pews. There's more empty than there are full. There's more seats not taken than there are taken right now. And it is like that the country over. [18:50] The places where you find the full pews are mostly not all but mostly are places that do not preach the true gospel of Jesus Christ. They preach prosperity. [19:02] They preach come to Jesus and He'll take care of you. And folks He does. He does. That's not a lie in and of itself but their version of taking care of you and the Bible's version of taking care of you are two very different things. [19:16] Come unto Jesus if you want wealth. Come unto Jesus if you want health. Come unto Jesus if you want this and want that. Folks that is not scriptural. You come unto Jesus because you are a lost broken sinner in need of a Savior. [19:32] That's why we come unto Jesus. It is not to obtain material things. It is to obtain a spiritual birth. It is to be raised the spiritual life in Christ Jesus. [19:43] That's why anyone comes to Jesus because they realize that they are nothing but lost without Him. So here in these verses again lest when thou hast eaten and art full and hast built goodly houses and dwelt there and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied and all that thou hast is multiplied. [20:04] God is saying all these things will be multiplied multiplied unto you. He says then thine heart be lifted up. Folks there is nothing nothing in a believer's life I'm talking about believers I'm talking about Christians I'm talking about us. [20:19] There is nothing more dangerous in a believer's life than having a lifted up heart. There is nothing more dangerous than pride being lifted up in that heart. [20:30] Why? Because pride exalts self above God. Pride exalts self to the same place as God and pride places self in the very throne of the creator of the universe. [20:44] That's why it's dangerous. It's dangerous for believers to do that. It's dangerous for lost people to do it. They do it all the time. We know better. God has given warning remember here folks this is to His people. [20:57] This is to His people His chosen people that He has given this warning to and this warning goes out to us as believers as God's own as well. [21:09] Then thine heart be lifted up and thou forget the Lord thy God which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt from the house of bondage who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness wherein were fiery serpents and scorpions and drought and where there was no water who brought thee forth water out of the rock who fed thee in the wilderness with manna which thy fathers knew not that He might humble thee and that He might prove thee to do thee good at thy latter end. [21:37] God is giving warning here but God is also bringing these Israelites back to a place in their memory that God has taken care of you in the past and God will and can and will take care of you in the future if you do not forget Him. [21:55] But God as far as I'm reading here everything I'm reading here there's two sides to this there's two sides to this God will remember His people and God will take care of His people as long as His people remember Him but when we forget God praise God I've got a Father that will chase me down I've got a Father that will chastise me and that is just proof to me that I'm one of His because the Bible says that without chastisement we're bastards and not sons I'm not a bastard I know who my Heavenly Father is and He has chastised me more than once and I praise God for that folks when I was a young'un and I would be chastised and I'd be whooped by my parents I couldn't stand it then I hated it then you hated it when your parents done the same thing with you but I look back on it now that I'm a grown adult male and I thank God for the raising that I had by my parents and I thank God for the raising I've got of my Heavenly Father Almighty God [22:55] I thank God that He chases us down I thank God that He pulls us back in line I thank God that He doesn't let me just continue to the left or the right but He will pull me and beat me back to the straight and narrow way hallelujah that's the ways of God and I thank God for those ways but He's bringing these Israelites back He's saying you were in a land with these fiery serpents and with scorpions there was danger all around you you had no water you had no provision you had no food I brought water out of a rock I rained manna down from heaven I took care of you and just on a side note every drop of water that came from that rock and every flake of manna that fell from the heavens preached Jesus Christ every drop of water and every flake of manna preached salvation and preached that salvation through Jesus Christ for Jesus Christ said that He is the living water Jesus Christ offered the living water [23:56] Jesus Christ said I am the bread from heaven Jesus Christ said I am all of these things so when all these things were happening to these Jews out in the wilderness everything that happened to them was preaching Christ it was preaching provision from God these Jews had no way to save themselves their fathers that died in the wilderness over the course of 40 years had no way of saving themselves out of Egypt but God with His strong and mighty right arm with His strong and mighty right hand He delivered the Israelites out of Egypt through the Red Sea and got them on their way to the promised land when they had no way of doing so themselves folks we were here in the wilderness we had no provision that we could give ourselves we had no bread we had no water there was danger everywhere we could do nothing about it but God and His mercy and God and His grace and God and His love and long supper provided a way out of the wilderness through Jesus Christ praise God hallelujah [25:03] I don't know about you but I get excited when I think about it I get excited to think that I was lost in the wilderness I was wondering not knowing where I was going but God reached down and saved my unworthy soul praise God I didn't deserve it these Jews here didn't deserve it but God saw fit to bring them out of bondage God saw fit to bring me out of bondage through Jesus Christ and it is only through Jesus Christ that that is made possible God reminded them who took care of you who took care of your parents and folks remember in Numbers when He told them your carcasses will fall in this wilderness you will rot your bodies will rot out here in this wild where you are at right now but God did not forsake them He told them they weren't going to go in but He did not forsake them in fact earlier in this same chapter that we are in here right now [26:05] He says your clothes didn't rot nothing went wrong with your clothes your feet didn't swell all these 40 years that you were out here in this wilderness God took care of them even though He had told the elder Israelites you're not going in but He still provided for them He did not He did not He didn't exclude them from eating of the manna He didn't exclude them from drinking of the water He didn't exclude them from anything but He let them die out in the wilderness because of their unbelief you remember that folks God takes care of His own God takes care of His own even even when His own forget Him God still looks after them I ain't inviting you to forget God don't you hear me wrong I'm not inviting that at all I don't dare invite the chastisement of God upon myself and I don't and I don't encourage you to do so either because that is a whooping you will never forget but God takes care of His own who fed thee in the wilderness with manna which thy fathers knew not that He might humble thee [27:11] He tells them why He done these things that He might humble thee and that He might prove thee to do thee good at thy latter end that He might humble thee that you might see your dependence upon Him again folks they were out there in this land where there was nothing that's why it's called a wilderness there was nothing for them out there but God provided everything that they needed and He said He done this to humble them so that they would see that they needed to depend solely and wholly upon Almighty God He said that He might prove them to do thee good at thy latter end folks you might be going through a trial in your life right now God may have allowed something to happen in your life and you just think that it's awful you think Lord how am I ever going to get out of this God why am I going through this God why have you allowed this thing to happen to me it is for your good and it is for the glory of God that these things happen maybe you needed patience the Bible says my brethren count it all joy when you fall into diverse temptations knowing this that the trying of your faith worketh patience but let patience have her perfect worth that ye may be perfect and entire wanting nothing when these trials come in your life when these things happen let them happen [28:35] I ain't saying just lay back and let the world have its way with you I'm not saying that at all but folks it is for your good just like God told Israel out here He said to do thee good at thy latter end folks when the end of this thing is all over we can look back in our lives even before the end I mean folks I can look back in my as compared to some of you all in my short time as a Christian in comparison of years in my short time as a Christian I can look back and see trials that I have been through but I can see that it was for my good I can see health crisis that I have been through I can see financial crisis that I have been through I can see all kinds of things that I have been through but it was for my good it was for my good and I see that now and I will see it even more so at the very end of this and I will see that Jesus Christ and the glory of his gospel was worth it all it was worth it all it was worth it all to go through some of the trials that I have been through because now I have run into fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and maybe going through something that is very similar to something that [29:46] I went through and I can share my experience with them I can share with them that God delivered me and if God delivered me he can deliver you as well it is better for me to go through trial in this life knowing that I have a prize named Jesus Christ at the end of this way it is better for my letter in it is better for my good and I will look back and at the end of my days I will look back and say Jesus Christ was worth it all the gospel was worth it all the will of God was worth it all if it is the will of God that I suffer in this life so be it if it is the will of God that I suffer in this life so be it and folks that is a hard thing for us to comprehend but if it is the will of the Father it is for your good and it is for His glory and if it brings glory unto the Father if it brings glory unto the very one that saved my soul through His Son Jesus Christ so be it and that's the attitude that all Christians need to have and we need to retain that attitude it's easy to do when everything is good it's easy to do when there are no trials it's easy to say that folks when you pray when you pray [31:00] Thy will be done it's a whole it's an entirely different thing to pray it and to mean it when you pray Thy will be done folks watch out if you truly mean it watch out because God's will will be done in your life but that should be our will that should be everyone's will everyone that has been born again that should be our will is that the will of the Father be done in our lives and Thou say in Thine heart My power and the might of Mine hand hath gotten Me this well this is the lie that is spoken by every believer that says I've done this but needs to realize that they are nothing more than a recipient of the grace of God this is the lie that is spoken by every lost person that says I can find my own way to God this is the lie that is spoken by so many people in the scriptures read it again and Thou say in Thine heart [32:07] My power and the might of Mine hand hath gotten Me this well folks this is the exact attitude that Solomon had Solomon was surrounded with gold he was surrounded with horses he was surrounded with wives and what happened his heart was turned toward idolatry David was at ease in his own palace surrounded by wealth but he fell into temptation with Bathsheba Herod over in the New Testament Acts chapter 12 I believe it is he got the praise of men as if he were a god and God struck him down we need to be cautious folks with that type of attitude and Thou say in Thine heart My power and the might of Mine hand hath gotten Me this well you remember this well you remember it good that every breath you take every step that we make in this life every skill that we have everything that we have accomplished in this life everything that we do is borrowed from Almighty God [33:10] God gave Noah the wisdom to build the ark God gave Daniel the interpretation of dreams he gave Joseph the interpretation of dreams all those things were gifts they were given by God and everything that you have and everything that I have regardless of how long I've worked in my life regardless of how much money I put out for anything it is all given by God and we cannot forget that you might thank God for your job do you thank him for the ability to do that job because that's a gift too there are many people who like to work but can't many people want to work but can't thou say in thine heart my power and the might of mine hand have gotten me this well this sounds like that fellow over there in the gospel of Luke Christ talks about him he speaks a parable about him he says this fellow he's rich and his barns were full and they were overflowing the guy says what am I going to do [34:13] I'll pull down my barns and I'll build back even bigger barns better barns sounds like a popular political slogan a couple of years ago don't it build back better but that's what that fellow's attitude was I'm going to build bigger and I'm going to store all my fruits in these barns and I will say to my soul soul I've acquired much fruit I've acquired all these things now I can eat and drink and be merry and God said thou fool thy soul will be required of thee this night he called a God called him a fool because he had that attitude because he had all this wealth but folks his wealth did not amount to worship his wealth give him the attitude that we're reading here in verse 17 and thou say in thine heart my power and the might of mine hand have gotten me this wealth it is all borrowed of God do not forget that and salvation is given of God and it's not borrowed praise God it's given as a free gift to all of those that repent of their ways and believe the gospel hallelujah but folks everything that we have everything that we have is of God [35:28] I have a house I have vehicle I have a loving wife I have two wonderful sons I've got one grandson I've got another grandson on the way I've got food I've got clothing I've got shelter I've got all of these things I've got a job I've got the ability to do that job I've got many things but folks if I forget that it is because of God that I have those what does that amount to? [35:52] it amounts to nothing it amounts to nothing but when I remember God and I praise God for allowing all these things in my life from the smallest to the greatest when I remember God it remains a blessing it remains a blessing to me and that drives me to praise God even more I'm not saying that if I forget God it's no longer a blessing folks God blessed me with air in my lungs and flowing blood in my veins long before I got saved God sustained me in this world long enough to save my soul God could have snuffed me out when I was 10 years old 12 years old 15, 20 25, 30 all the way up to the time I was over 33 years old God could have snuffed me out and I'd be in hell right now if that was the case but praise God when I was 33 33 and just a couple of months old God saved my soul and I owe that to Him it's not because of what I did all I did was believe [36:58] I was a sinner and He was the Savior that's all I did and folks I couldn't have done that without God giving me a mind to do so without God giving me wisdom without God giving me revelation of who I was and who He is salvation is completely totally and utterly of God and people say but you have to believe yes but folks you can't believe without a mind that God gave you it is all of God verse 18 will be done but thou shalt remember folks everything we have talked about tonight everything we've talked about God bringing these Israelites back in their memory as to what He had done for them and basically insinuating that they were indeed going to forget Him and pride was going to step in and pride would lift them up and their hearts would be lifted up and all these things we have the antidote right here the disease is a prideful heart the antidote the cure but thou shalt remember that's the cure to a prideful heart that is the antidote that is offered in the Word of God but thou shalt remember the Lord thy God for it is He that giveth thee power to get well that He may establish [38:19] His covenant which He sware unto thy fathers as it is this day folks the key here is to remember you remember that every breath that you draw is a gift of God and it is given by mercy you remember that every step you take is a gift of God and it is given by mercy remember remember that everything that you have in this life is a gift of God remember that is the cure for pride is to remember where everything that we have and everything that we know and everything that we have done is given of God remember remember but thou shalt remember the Lord thy God for it is He that giveth thee power to get well now folks I ain't saying you remember God every minute of every day and God's gonna make you a multi-millionaire I'm not saying that and the Bible don't teach that but there's people out there that will preach that very message that will preach you want a yacht remember God you want you want a 5200 square foot garage remember God you want a 52,000 square foot home remember God there's people out there that would preach that message and do preach such messages the folks the warning is being given here it is not the material things that God has an issue with you read in the book of Haggai sometime little short minor prophet books only two chapters long you read in that book and God talks about their sealed houses [39:57] God had no problem with them living in sealed houses no problem at all what was his issue with that they had built these houses but they had neglected his house they had neglected the house of God that's where his issue was it wasn't the fact that they had homes it wasn't the fact that they had things it was the fact that they had these things and those things took precedence over his things that's where the issue was and twice he tells the Israelites in that book consider thy ways consider thy ways I've had a sermon up my sleeve for years on those three words and I have yet to preach it because God hasn't given me clearance to do so but thou shalt remember the Lord thy God for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth that he may establish his covenant which he swear unto thy fathers as it is this day it is God's power that we receive wealth what wealth do we get folks I'm not talking about material things [40:57] I'm talking about spiritual wealth we are rich in Jesus Christ we are rich in almighty God almighty God owns it all he has one only begotten son that owns it all and I'm an heir to God and a joiner with Jesus Christ therefore if I'm a joiner with Jesus Christ I own it all alone with him the Bible teaches that at the end of this road I will rule and I will reign with him and everyone that is repairing their ways believing the gospel of Jesus Christ Christ will rule and reign with him now there may be somebody here tonight I don't know I don't know everybody's heart that pride is so thick that you've never been saved maybe you've got the attitude I've never done anything I need to repent of I've never done anything really bad I've never murdered anyone I've never never committed adultery I've never done this I've never done that the Bible makes it very plain all have sinned and come short of the glory of God the Bible makes it plain all we like sheep have gone astray we have all turned to our own way we have all rebelled against the commands of [42:11] God we have all rebelled against his judgments and against his statutes we have all sinned against him so get rid of your pride and I understand folks I understand better than anybody else pride has a bad aftertaste pride gives you indigestion I get that I've had to swallow it several times on my own but until pride is taken out of the way a person cannot be saved a person must be humbled and must come to the realization that the only way into salvation is through God and through repentance of their sin and God humbles folks before he saves them God bless you all I appreciate your attention amen
